Bike maintenance tips

A basic maintenance for the bike should be done at least once a year. If possible, the best option is to take your bicycyle to bike store for a professional maintenance. However, when the a student budget is tight, you can also do basic stuff by yourself.

Now, in the beginning of the cycling season, it’s a good time to give your bike some attention.

Check at least:

  • the brakes and gears are functioning as they should
  • tighten bolts and nuts
  • test tire pressures
  • go through the chains

There are plenty of good and easy detailed maintenance tips on YouTube, for example.

Pumping tires, cleaning and oiling chains, and carefully wiping the entire bike of dirt is surprisingly easy. These should be repeated whenever necessary, more than once a season.
