A safe first apartment for the youth

The Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region (Hoas) is a non-profit foundation, founded in 1969 to relieve the shortage of student housing in the capital area. Hoas works in cooperation with the student unions of the University of Helsinki and Aalto University, as well as 10 other university and polytechnic student unions.

Hoas is founded by the students, for students. We have offered homes for students and memorable experiences as a part of this important time in one’s life for over 50 years.

We are a trustworthy, established and equal lessor, that is directed by the rules of the foundation and governmental agency Ara. We offer help and advice such as extensive property maintenance, professional customer service and tenant support for challenging situations.

We offer help and support much more than other landlords. Our expertise lies in student housing. We know our customer group well and take their needs into account in everything that we do. We help you in the first steps of your tenancy, how to take care of your home, paying rent, changing apartments, tenant activity and many other things.

Moving out on your own for the first time is exciting, inspiring, wonderful, weird and maybe even a little scary. The tenants form a community of peers that offers support for a person starting out independent life.

In addition to the inexpensive price the best thing about shared apartments is that you do not have to try and get through things on your own. You can share moments of joy, sadness and wonder with your flatmates, not to forget cleaning, meals and cost of new coffee machine or microwave.

Hoas is a non-profit foundation, which means that we can keep our rents low. The amount of rents is set on the basis of us being able to rent out apartments, maintain our properties and keep up with renovations and construction. For this reason our rents are approximately 35 percent lower than the market.

The rent includes many necessary services free of charge such as internet connection, sauna, laundry and extensive waste recycling. In addition to this, we support active tenant activity that you can take part in and improve freely with your neighbours.
